National Archive
A national archive is in the making. Some remnant Portuguese and Indonesian materials have been preserved. Timorese staff have trained in Portugal, Malaysia and Darwin.

Human Rights Archive
Timor-Leste's Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation is collecting important materials and testimony from 1974-1999. There are plans to convert the Commission's building into a human rights centre, museum and archive.

"Mr Carrascalao said that, as the Indonesian-appointed governor of East Timor between 1982 and 1992, he had received thousands of letters from women telling of rapes and killings, which he would contribute to the archives of the truth and reconciliation commission."

Sydney Morning Herald, 2 May 2003
